Statement Iran/Iraq

KLM is currently not operating over Iran and Iraq. This is not a safety issue. KLM has a security management system that is used to analyse risks and determine safe flight routes. Analysis has shown that operations over Iran and Iraq are safe again. This analysis is based on information shared within a Dutch group of experts, consisting of all Dutch airlines, Netherlands intelligence services, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of the Interior & Kingdom Relations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NCTV and the Ministry of Infrastructure & Water Management. In addition, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has no safety concerns about crossing Iraqi and Iranian airspace, as long as sufficient altitude is maintained. The French and American authorities have, however, not yet reopened Iraqi and Iranian airspace to French and American citizens. Owing to its code-sharing agreements with Air France and Delta Air Lines, KLM is compelled to refrain from flying over Iran and Iraq.
