Appointments at KLM Annual Shareholders’ Meeting

Summary

At KLM's Annual Shareholders' Meeting in Amstelveen on 24 April 2024, shareholders approved the appointment of two new members to the Supervisory Board and the new Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Cees ’t Hart is stepping down after ten years on KLM's Supervisory Board, which he also chaired from 2019. He is succeeded by the highly experienced executive, Wiebe Draijer, who was Chief Executive at Rabobank between 2014 and 2022. Prior to this, Mr Draijer was chair and Crown member of the Social and Economic Council (SER) and director for the Benelux region at the consultancy firm McKinsey.

Pierre-François Riolacci joined KLM's Supervisory Board in 2016. Stepping down at the end of his term, he is succeeded by Frédéric Gagey. Mr Gagey has more than earned his spurs in the airline industry, having served Air France, Air France-KLM and KLM in many roles, including Chief Financial Officer & Managing Director at KLM from 2005 to 2012.

On the recommendation of the Supervisory Board, the shareholders' meeting also appointed Bas Brouns as Chief Financial Officer. This makes Mr Brouns a member of KLM's Board of Managing Directors with immediate effect. He succeeds Erik Swelheim, who has stepped down at the end of his term.

I would like to extend my gratitude to Cees 't Hart and Pierre-François Riolacci for their unflagging commitment to KLM. As members of the Supervisory Board, they were important sounding boards and I enjoyed discussing the latest developments with them. I am certain Wiebe Draijer and Frédéric Gagey will bring the same dedication to constructing the future of this wonderful company. Today, we also bid farewell to CFO Erik Swelheim, who shaped KLM's financial strategy under what were, at times, highly challenging circumstances. We can now build on the work he has done. I am delighted that Bas Brouns has been appointed as Erik's successor. Bas has worked at KLM for 28 years. With his extensive knowledge and expertise on the board, we will be able to deliver a future-proof KLM.
