First Half results 2019 Air France - KLM

Similar to the first quarter of this year, KLM’s results in the second quarter were affected by a combination of higher fuel costs, pressure on revenues per unit, a decrease in cargo transport, and higher operating costs. In the second quarter, we achieved an operating result of EUR 258 million (compared to EUR 336 million last year). The operating result for the first half of 2019 dropped almost by half, from EUR 388 million to EUR 202 million. The lack of room for growth in the Netherlands and a variety of operational disruptions, at Schiphol and in the airspace, had a further negative effect on results. This is a significant break with the positive developments in the results of recent years. So it is all the more important that we continue our successful course of cost savings paired with investment. This way, we will remain healthy and fit for our customers and employees, even on our one hundredth anniversary.
KLM President & CEO Pieter Elbers
