Dow Jones Sustainability Index announces latest rankings

I congratulate All Nippon Airway on being named the most sustainable airline on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. Air France-KLM held this position twelve times and has ranked among the top three for the past 14 years. KLM will uphold its ranking by pursuing its efforts to further reduce its environmental footprint. For instance, by utilising sustainable biofuel, fleet renewal and more efficient flight operations. Sustainable operations also imply that employees play a central role. KLM will therefore continue to strive for sustainable development and deployment of all staff, so that they may perform to the best of their ability.
KLM President & CEO Pieter Elbers

Sustainability is integrated into Air France-KLM’s business and operations. For KLM, sustainable enterprise implies that we focus on themes where we can best influence and support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. In addition to our efforts to reduce our environmental footprint, we focus on themes such as diversity and responsible purchasing, and we continually engage with other stakeholders in the greater Schiphol Mainport area.

The commitment and innovation potential of our staff are essential for our business. Many new initiatives are thought up and put into practice on the work floor. In addition, we are investing in cutting back CO2 emissions by way of sustainable biofuel, fleet renewal, weight reduction on board and many other initiatives. It is KLM’s objective to reduce CO2 emissions per passenger by 20% in 2020, compared to 2011. We are well on our way to achieving this target, with reduction already at 17% in June 2018.

Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI)

The DJSI has a so called “best-in-class” approach, assessing the efforts of corporations in various different sectors on the basis of various sustainability indicators, and comparing them to their competitors. Every year, more than 3,000 listed companies, including 800 companies in emerging markets, are invited by RobecoSAM to report on their sustainability efforts.
