KLM Curaçao Marathon supports Run 4 School

Summary

Yesterday saw the third edition of the KLM Curaçao Marathon in Willemstad. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is the title sponsor of the event organised by the Run in the Sun foundation.

This year, the Run in the Sun foundation chose to support ‘Run 4 School’, to support a primary school in Curacao. The Dutch Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (ANVR) conference under the theme of “Travel for School”, chose Fundashon Amigunan di Cristo as its charity. The group provides afterschool care to about 120 children, helping them with their homework, feeding them lunch, and offering them love and attention.

Enormous proceeds
The charity managed to collect EUR 7500. About 2,000 participants from twenty-nine countries took part. They had the choice of a variety of events – the 5-kilometre walk or run, the 10-kilometre walk or run, a half- or full marathon, or a 10.5-kilometre trail run. The marathon is certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races.

Marlies Kort from Curaçao won the women’s marathon in 3:03.24. Mervis Del Jesus Villaroel of Venezuela won the men’s marathon in 3:01.40.

On board
On 23 and 24 November, the KLM flight from Amsterdam to Curaçao also devoted attention to the KLM Curaçao Marathon. Passengers received energy bars and drinks for the special occasion. And, at the airport in Curaçao, they received KLM-blue sunglasses.
