Erik Varwijk to leave KLM

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines announced today that Erik Varwijk will, in mutual agreement, resign as Managing Director & EVP of Air France-KLM Cargo effective 1 March 2015. Mr Varwijk has been a member of the KLM Board of Managing Directors since 2011 and has been in charge of cargo business since April 2013, when he was appointed EVP of Air France-KLM Cargo.

I have decided that I will not be available for reappointment at the end of my current term on 1 July. With the completion of the strategic reorientation of cargo, the time has come for something new. I am very grateful for the many wonderful years with KLM, the opportunities it has offered me and the excellent cooperation with such diverse and dedicated colleagues.
Erik Varwijk - EVP of Air France-KLM-Martinair Cargo
On behalf of the Supervisory Board and the Board of Managing Directors, I would like to thank Erik for more than 25 years of devoted service to KLM. In recent years, he has made an enormous contribution to the development of our e-commerce activities, the successful joint venture with Delta Air Lines and the integration of the commercial activities of Air France and KLM. Thereafter, when he was appointed EVP of Air France-KLM Cargo, he shaped the strategic reorientation of this business. As this reorientation is now entering a new phase, the time is right for a management reshuffle at Air France-KLM Cargo. We wish Erik all the best for the future.
Hans Smits - Chairman of the KLM Supervisory Board

Further information on Erik Varwijk’s successor as EVP of Air France-KLM Cargo will follow in due course.
