In conversation with the KLM bot, users are advised on suitable destinations, using a combination of images and spoken text. Users will also immediately be informed of the ticket price.

</pp:summary>

From 26 June, all Alexa users will be able to go in search of the KLM destination best suited to their wishes. KLM’s Travel Guide offers inspiration as well as personal advice in terms of flight duration, budget, travel dates and specifications, such a “city trip” or “beach holiday”. Based on this information, KLM suggests the destination that best fulfils the passenger’s wishes, along with the ticket price and a short description. This KLM service will be available on all speakers running the Alexa operating system, with or without a screen.

Innovative leader

The Dutch pioneering spirit that is so characteristic of KLM is reflected in our use of innovative technology, such as voice-activated systems. The technology itself is not of prime importance, but rather the extent to which it makes life easier for our passengers before, during and after their flight. By experimenting with the possibilities, KLM aims to remain an innovative leader offering the very best passenger experience.

KLM previously launched a travel guide on Google Home, which helps people find a suitable holiday destination. Also a departure planner is available that lets users know when it is time to head off to the airport. Customers can furthermore use Google Home to find and book flights, and to get customised advice on what they should pack, based on their KLM destination, the duration of their trip and local weather forecasts.

KLM on social media

KLM has been a pioneer in social media services and campaigns since 2009. We have more than 28 million friends and followers on a variety of social media. Through these channels, KLM receives more than 180,000 messages a week, 35,000 of which are questions or comments. The world’s largest social media team, consisting of 360 service staff, respond to the messages personally. KLM offers customers support 24/7 on WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Twitter, WeChat, and KakaoTalk in Dutch, English, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. KLM was the world’s first airline to offer its customers flight documents and status updates via WhatsApp, Messenger, and Twitter. What’s more, it was the first western airline to use the Chinese social media channel WeChat.

Any questions or looking for more information about KLM on social media? Google’s smart speaker and voice assistant, Google Home, is now available in the Netherlands, and KLM is using it to help customers plan and prepare their trips.

</pp:summary>

Google Home is a voice-activated service. In keeping with KLM’s aim to offer its customers the ultimate travel experience using digital innovation, the company is launching four services for Dutch-speaking customers. Two services are completely new and complement two existing KLM voice services, all of which have been developed using artificial intelligence and KLM technology. The rollout of the services starts from today. All ‘voice’ services will be available in the coming month.

Travel guide

The first new service will help you find a suitable travel destination based on the flight duration, budget, travel date, and travel theme you want. Based on a short dialogue, KLM offers customers three suitable destinations, including a brief description of each one. Following that, customers immediately receive the current ticket prices via a link on their mobile phones.

Departure planner

Using the second new service, KLM tells customers at what time they have to be at Schiphol before departure. This uses a technical connection to Schiphol’s systems (API). The departure planner also advises customers about what time they should leave home, whether by car or public transport.

Searching for flights and help with packing

One of the existing KLM voice services on Google Home helps customers search for and book flights. Furthermore, KLM already provides its customers with personal advice about how to pack their baggage based on their destination, trip duration, and the local weather forecast.

<pp:quotes><pp:quote>

Google launched its Dutch version of the Google Assistant today. Customers can now search easily for KLM flights by giving spoken instructions in Dutch. KLM is once again in the forefront and among the first companies to offer Dutch-language services through this voice-activated platform.

</pp:summary>

This new KLM service is also available in English from today, which makes KLM one of the first companies in the world to offer a service on this platform in more than one language. KLM’s smart assistant BB, known as Blue Bot, helps customers to find suitable KLM flights. Once the desired flight has been found, BB sends the customer a link which takes them straight to KLM.com where they can book the flight directly.

BB service on the Google Assistant based on artificial intelligence
KLM’s Blue Bot is based on artificial intelligence, which is linked to a combination of KLM and external technologies. BB is self-learning and has her own personality: helpful, friendly, professional, and edgy. The more you use her, the smarter and more personal she becomes. BB was already able to assist with the booking of a ticket through Messenger (in English) and the packing of a suitcase on the Google Assistant (in English). Now she can be used to search for a flight through the Google Assistant in both English and Dutch. BB will offer more and more services on this voice-activated platform and other social media channels in the coming period.

The Google Assistant in phased roll-out
The Dutch Google Assistant will be rolled out in phases by Google in the coming period. This assistant helps users find answers more quickly - hands free - and to get things done faster. The Dutch version is currently only available for the Google Assistant on smartphones and tablets. This will later be expanded to include other mobile devices such as Google’s speaker, the Google Home. The English language version has already been around for some time.

KLM on social media
Since 2009, KLM has gained a reputation as pioneer in the field of social media services and campaigns. KLM has over 25M fans and followers on various social media platforms. Through these channels, KLM receives over 180,000 mentions every week, 35,000 of which are questions or remarks. These are personally answered by more than 300 service agents, who form the world’s largest and dedicated social media team. On WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger, Twitter, WeChat, and KakaoTalk, KLM offers her customers 24/7 service in nine different languages: Dutch, English, German, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. During office hours, 7 days per week, KLM also offers services in Italian. KLM was the first airline in the world to offer passengers the option of receiving their flight documents and status updates on WhatsApp, Messenger and Twitter. It was also the first Western airline to offer this on the Chinese platform WeChat.

<pp:quotes><pp:quote>
