This even exceeded the already encouraging growth in passenger numbers achieved in the first 11 months of the year of 6.3% to almost 28 million passengers. If we succeed in sustaining this trend in December we will reach our target of 30 million set for 2016. Adding 14 new destinations in 2016 certainly appears to be bearing fruit! Transavia NL has also succeeded in strengthening its position in the European market with robust growth in passenger numbers during the month and throughout the first 11 months of the year.

Despite global growth of the cargo market, KLM Cargo saw volumes shrink by 12.2% this month in comparison with the same month last year, despite a significant 7.7% capacity reduction.

Small group of FNV supporters affect large group of KLM passengers

Although only a small group of people plan to stop working, this will potentially impact thousands of passengers resulting in delays, missed connections and/or baggage remaining behind. What’s more, this industrial action will result in a loss for KLM of between €3 million and €4 million. This is disproportionate to the small group of FNV supporters who are bringing matters to a head. KLM’s proposal has been put before the membership bases of the four other trade unions for deliberation.

KLM has initiated preliminary relief proceedings against FNV, which will take place this afternoon. Yesterday morning, KLM invited FNV to resume talks because we suspect that the points of disagreement are in fact smaller than originally expressed. FNV did not take up the invitation, choosing instead to initiate industrial action.

<pp:quotetext>We are excited to have realized and present SPENCER which is the first socially-aware robot that has ever been deployed at an airport. What makes SPENCER unique is that it can deal with social situations between people. It can ’see' and analyse people nearby with its sensors. It reasons about possible social relations between people like whether they are a family or group. It also learns about and then complies to social rules and act in a human-friendly way. These abilities are important for many intelligent service robots to be used by people such as future household robots, collaborative factory assistants, or self-driving cars. Guiding people at an airport is a good example of a challenging everyday problem. It is a very busy environment with many people and there is a lot of time pressure while the robot has to operate safely and in a socially acceptable way</pp:quotetext>
