]]>In the KLM App, customer comfort is a priority before, during and after the journey. Adding the Apple Pay option to the KLM App will serve to further enhance customer convenience.

Customers will simply have to connect their Maestro debit card (PIN card) to Apple Pay (once only) after which they will be able to authorise payments in the KLM App using a fingerprint (Touch ID) or facial scan (Face ID). It should be noted that the Maestro debit card will have to be issued by a bank that cooperates with Apple Pay.

Security and privacy is at the core of Apple Pay. When customers use a debit card with Apple Pay, the actual card number is not stored on the device, nor on Apple servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted and securely stored in the Secure Element on your device. Each transaction is authorized with a one-time unique dynamic security code.

More than 100,000 active users a day

The KLM App has been downloaded millions of times and currently supports more than 100,000 active users a day. Apple Pay has been added to the existing functionality of the KLM App that includes up-to-date flight information, booking flights, online check-in and seat reservations. To integrate Apple Pay into the KLM App, KLM has joined forces with payment service provider Adyen.

The KLM App has already been downloaded millions of times and has more than 100,000 active users each day. No fewer than 70% of the app users are logged in permanently and use the KLM app several times a month. The app’s features are designed to enhance overall comfort before, during and after the trip.

The AR hand baggage check has been added to the existing functionalities of the KLM App, including up-to-date flight information, booking a flight, checking in online, downloading boarding passes or reserving specific seats. The app was also recently launched in the Airport Map, a digital map of no less than 24 different airports enabling passengers to find their way around quickly. With “Milestones”, passengers can use the KLM App to find out all sorts of useful information and tips with respect to their personal KLM flight history. Should a flight from Schiphol be significantly delayed, users also have the option of activating a digital snack or meal voucher. What’s more, the app even makes it possible for you to rebook your flight yourself.

]]>KLM’s AR hand baggage check uses a transparent, virtual KLM suitcase, which indicates the permitted dimensions for hand baggage on board. AR technology makes it possible for a virtual image to be placed in reality and to be used interactively. This makes it easy for a passenger to check at home whether their hand baggage is of the correct size. The hand baggage check is available in the KLM App for iOS users.

The KLM App uses Apple’s AR technology. KLM is also one of a group of leading companies that use Apple’s Augmented Reality-technology to provide customer services in the KLM App. KLM will continue to develop and improve the service in the future, so that it grows in line with the latest AR technology available.

KLM Houses App with AR

This handy new service follows on from other successful KLM AR initiatives, such as the 360-degree display of a Dreamliner aircraft in the KLM App. The KLM Houses App has also gone live with a new AR application. Using iOS11, it is now possible to experience the story of Anthony Fokker’s House 98 through Augmented Reality! Click on the blue aircraft icon and fly along “in reality” with different Fokker model aircraft.

]]>The KLM app’s features are designed to enhance overall comfort before, during, and after the flight. The addition of the payment method Google Pay to KLM’s app contributes to this.

KLM is one of the first airlines in Europe that offers the functionality to store the boarding pass to the Google Pay app. Boarding passes automatically pop up on a phone a couple of hours before the flight. A similar functionality was already available to users of the iOS KLM app, via Apple Wallet.

Starting today, the new feature is available for KLM app users in countries such as United Kingdom, USA, Spain, Germany, and Brazil. Google announced that Google Pay will come available globally in due time, so KLM expects it does not take too long before it will be available to users in The Netherlands.

In addition to Milestones, the revamped app offers further improvements for passengers including a more extensive flight status update.

]]>The Milestones feature allows passengers using the KLM app to view a variety of facts and figures about their personal flight history at KLM. For example, they can see how long and how often they have flown, how many destinations they have visited, how many kilometres they have travelled, and how much baggage they have taken. It then allows them to share their personal travel information easily with family and friends. In this way, KLM is responding to people’s growing desire to quantify their personal affairs and share their data on social media.

The new features will be added to the KLM app’s existing line-up, such as booking a flight, checking in online, downloading boarding passes, reserving seats, or paying for baggage. Recently, we launched our Schiphol Airport Map, a digital layout of the airport, so that passengers can find their way around the airport quickly.

Redesigned flight status update

Version 9.6 of KLM's mobile app also contains revamped flight status updates. Using the flight number, passengers can get up-to-date flight information, such as the latest departure and arrival times. If a flight from Schiphol is severely delayed, users can activate a digital snack or meal voucher themselves. The app also offers the possibility to rebook your flight yourself.

With the KLM app in hand, passengers to the United States who qualify for a TSA pre-check can now enter their Known Traveller Number, allowing them to pass the security checkpoint in the US more quickly.
