With the new iFly virtual reality (VR), you can now take a virtual trip. KLM’s online platform uses VR to let visitors experience a near-lifelike journey. KLM wants to inspire people to travel and discover the world with the help of the latest technology.

]]>iFly VR captures some of the most beautiful places in the world in 360 degrees and is hosted by the famous “Fearless Chef” Kiran Jethwa. In the first of three editions, Jethwa takes viewers to the Thai jungle where he heads off in search of the world’s most remarkable coffee beans.

 

Delicate production process

In the first episode, Jethwa guides his viewers through the delicate production process, from coffee bean to steaming cup of coffee. This special coffee is produced with the help of elephants. The VR experience ensures that you really experience it up close, putting you literally face-to-face with these majestic beasts.

Breath-taking travel videos

KLM has a reputation to uphold when it comes to applying technological innovation to provide customers with a memorable travel experience. We have introduced iFly VR to emphasise this.

Very soon, iFly will show you breath-taking travel videos that allow you to see 360 degrees around you. You’ll have time to take in all the splendour of the surroundings, so it’s nearly as impressive as real travel. You can enjoy the new videos with VR glasses, or on a tablet or smartphone. So anyone can take a long journey from the comfort of their own home. You’ll ride across rivers, sit among the locals at a ceremony – you can almost feel the sun warming your head. Wearing the VR glasses, you can imagine yourself sitting or walking next to the presenter as he walks through the rainforest, meets indigenous tribes, or pets an elephant.

KLM’s next iFly VR production will take place in Hawaii.

The 21st Annual Webby Awards, also known as the Oscars of the Internet, will be dished out in New York on 15 May 2017. The likes of CNN, Solange, AirBnB, The New Yorker, Lady Gaga, Google and The Washington Post will also be receiving Webby Awards for their digital presence.

]]>Not only did iFly KLM 50 come in at the top of the Tourism & Leisure category within the Advertising Media & PR category, but the Best User Experience Webby was also secured within this category. What’s more, an award was also secured within the Best Visual Design (Aesthetic) category within the Websites category. The Webby Awards were first established in 1996 at the start of the Internet era. The Webbys are awarded by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS), which represents around 2,000+ jury members. The jury membership includes leading web experts, creative celebrities, former Webby winners and nominees, and Internet professionals. Public prizes are also awarded within each category. In 2017, the Webbys received a record number of votes from the public, totalling 3.5 million. KLM has been nominated for Webby Awards in the past and even emerged previously as “Honoree” or overall winner.

Earlier this month, KLM also won five SpinAwards including the Grand SpinAward for 2017, two bronze Lamps at the 50th edition of the ADCN Awards, and a Customer Centric DNA Award.

This prize is awarded to the organisation that has, in the past year, had the most impact on the Dutch digital landscape. The panel of judges lauded KLM’s “courageous approach to change and innovation”.

Last week, KLM also won several other prestigious awards, including a Customer Centric DNA Award and two Bronze Lamp Awards at the 50th edition of the ADCN Awards. The cherry on top came with KLM’s nomination for a Webby Award, which are the Oscars of the internet. Winners will be announced on 25 April 2017, with the awards ceremony to be held in New York on 15 May 2017.

Besides the Grand SpinAward, KLM won two silver awards for its digital magazine KLM iFly, in the categories ‘website’ and ‘design’. It also won a gold award in the category ‘digital service idea’ and a silver award in the category ‘innovation’ for KLM’s Messenger service.

Customer Centric DNA Awards

On 13 April 2017, at a Customer Centric DNA Awards ceremony in Utrecht, KLM was acknowledged as the most customer-centric organisation in the Public Transport category.

The CCDNA Awards offer insight into the most customer-centric organisations in the Netherlands. The winners of the 2017 CCDNA awards are selected by way of a benchmark study, which relies on the evaluations of consumers themselves, rather than the assessment of a panel of experts.

ADCN Awards

Also on 13 April 2017, KLM won two ADCN Awards (for advertising, design and creativity in the Netherlands) at a ceremony held in the Carré Theatre in Amsterdam. KLM won two Bronze Lamp Awards in the Advertising category, for its campaigns “Bonding Buffet” and “Nachtjeslampje”.
