KLM resumes flights from Malpensa Airport

On 26 March 2017, KLM will launch a thrice daily service between Milan Malpensa and Schiphol, in addition to the existing service from Milan Linate. In addition, Air France operates five flights a day between Milan Malpensa and Paris Charles de Gaulle. This provides passengers from Milan with connections to more than 260 destinations with a maximum transfer time of four hours in Amsterdam or Paris.

In addition to the Milan Malpensa service, KLM already added two new seasonal destinations to its network at the end of last year for 2017, namely Cagliari and Catania.

KLM resumes second flight to and from Brussels Airport effective 11 April 2016

The flight schedule (local time) for the period from 11 April to 1 May is as follows:

Amsterdam 06:50 hours – 07:35 hours Brussel
Amsterdam 12:35 hours – 13:25 hours Brussel
Brussel 08:10 hours – 09:00 hours Amsterdam
Brussel 14:00 hours – 14:55 hours Amsterdam

The intention is to add more frequencies as soon as possible. KLM’s customers will be informed about their bookings and about the security measures.

KLM Launches Android Smartwatch App

Smartwatch owners who install the KLM app on their Android smartphone will be able to check their flight overview in KLM’s smartwatch app any time after making a booking. They will start receiving trip-related notifications 24 hours ahead of their departure.

Upon entering Amsterdam Airport Schiphol’s “geofence”, passengers automatically receive a notification with gate information and their boarding time. Opening the notification allows the passenger to swipe between all relevant flight information. An hour before departure, passengers receive a message with their boarding pass, ready to be scanned at the gate. A final notification with the passenger’s seat number is sent just before departure.

In line with this vision, KLM last year launched an airport navigation service using iBeacon technology that helps transfer passengers find their next gate at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

KLM is testing the smartwatch technology in order to benefit from user experiences. This will also be helpful for the Apple Watch app.

KLM Resumes Direct Amsterdam–Dallas/Fort Worth Service

”KLM is delighted that it can once again offer its customers direct flights to and from this important business and leisure destination this summer,” said KLM President & CEO KLM Peter Hartman. “With the resumption of service to Dallas/Fort Worth, KLM and Delta now operate twenty direct services between Amsterdam and North American cities.”

The Amsterdam-Dallas/Fort Worth service will be operated five times a week, using an Airbus A330-200. Flight KL669 departs from Amsterdam at 10.30 hrs CET and arrives in Dallas/Fort Worth at 13.50 hrs LT. The return flight, KL670, leaves Dallas/Fort Worth 15.45 hrs LT and arrives in Amsterdam at 08.00 CET the next day.

KLM first began operating scheduled service to Dallas/Fort Worth in March 2008. During the past winter, KLM and its Transatlantic Joint Venture partner Delta Air Lines decided that this route would only be served in summer. The key reasons being fluctuating seasonal demand and industry-wide overcapacity in the transatlantic market.

The flights can be booked via www.klm.com. Flying Blue members who book travel to Dallas/Fort Worth in May and June will earn double FB miles.

With more than 260 transatlantic flights a day, operated by a fleet of 144 aircraft, the Transatlantic Joint Venture (JV) between AIR FRANCE KLM, Alitalia and Delta Air Lines offers customers the benefit of a sprawling network. With more flights, attractive rates and seamless services for transatlantic travel. The JV network is structured around seven main hubs: Amsterdam, Atlanta, Detroit, Minneapolis, New York-JFK, Paris-CDG and Rome Fiumicino.

KLM’s Sandwich Packaging on European Flights

Together with its Facebook fans, KLM assessed the entrees. Silvie Buenen, Tom van der Pijl and Agnes Loonstra produced the winning designs. Soon the three winners will board a KLM flight where they will be able to admire their own products. The three designs will be used for six months on a total of five million packets.

The KLM Inflight product label is called “Delicious”. This is printed on many of KLM’s Economy Class inflight products, such as snacks, meals, sandwiches and hot towels. The “Delicious Art” packaging will be used on board KLM and KLM Cityhopper European flights which last between 100 and 170 minutes. On flights shorter than 100 minutes they will be served until 09:00 hrs.

First commercial flights operated normally

The first two flights carried no passengers but transported cargo and flight crews. Dutch authorities have permitted KLM to fly only on these routes.

Passengers are advised not to go to Schiphol Airport, but to check the website for the airline with which they are flying for the latest information.

KLM return passengers from Curacao and Suriname

The flight from Curaçao will depart at 16:00 hrs Dutch time operating a Boeing 747. The flight from Paramaribo, an MD-11, will depart at 20:00 hrs Dutch time. “We will transport as many passengers as we can possibly carry,” the spokesperson said.

KLM Successfully Operates Ten Test Flights

KLM previously operated a test flight in Dutch airspace on Saturday evening, 17 April. The results of subsequent technical inspections revealed that the flight had encountered no problems whatsoever. Based on this information, the Dutch air transport authorities IVW, granted permission to operate further test flights on Sunday.

The first flight set off to Düsseldorf, Germany, at around 06.30 hrs on Sunday morning. The aircraft had no passengers on board, but was staffed by a 20-strong crew. The crew on board flew seven stranded aircraft from Düsseldorf to Schiphol during the course of the morning and early afternoon.

KLM President & CEO Peter Hartman stressed that these were test flights. This does not imply that regular air traffic can be resumed. This decision rests with the Dutch authorities IVW, in consultation with the European authorities.

KLM hopes to receive permission to resume part of its operations as soon as possible, so that passengers can be brought to their destination.

KLM Operates Ten Test Flights

The first flight departed from Düsseldorf, Germany, at around 06.30 hrs on Sunday morning. The aircraft had no passengers on board, but was staffed by a 20-strong crew.

The crew on board will fly the seven aircraft stranded in Düsseldorf back to Schiphol one by one. These flights will be operated during the course of Sunday.

“These are test flights,” stressed KLM President & CEO Peter Hartman. “This does not mean that normal air traffic has been resumed. This matter will be decided on by the Dutch air transport authorities IVW, in consultation with the European authorities.”

If all of the flights are operated without a hitch, KLM hopes to receive permission to resume part of its operations as quickly as possible to bring passengers to their destination. KLM will join hands with Lufthansa, which operated 10 test flights in Germany yesterday.

KLM expects to issue further updates later today.

Passengers are advised not to travel to Schiphol, but to closely monitor airline websites for the latest information about their flight.
