Dreamliner

The San Jose service will be operated using Boeing 787-900 equipment. This Boeing Dreamliner has 294 seats and offers plenty of travel comfort.
Important travel information for a busy summer at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol

<pp:caseid>204259</pp:caseid>

This weekend the summer holiday will start in the Netherlands. More passengers than usual are expected to travel from, to and via Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. This means that at certain times, the airport may be exceptionally busy. The increased number of departing passengers means that there may be longer queues at the airport.

Also in the interests of our KLM passengers, KLM takes additional measures. The aim is to minimize discomfort at Schiphol, and to allow KLM flights to depart on time. In addition to continuously monitoring departure and transition processes, KLM will also use additional staff to guide passengers at the airport. KLM will also inform travellers individually, for example, if something changes in flight schedules. In addition, KLM has prepared the following tips that can help the traveller to make the departure and transition process as quickly as possible:

1. Provide contact information in My Trip

KLM recommends all passengers to add their contact info to their booking details. In 'My Trip' on KLM.com, travellers can check, enter or change their phone number and e-mail address. This way, should something change in their journey, KLM can get in touch sooner.

2. Check in online

In addition, KLM strongly recommends checking in online. This can be done in the KLM app and on the website, starting 30 hours before departure. For flights to and from the United States, check-in is open from 24 hours before departure. Online check-in saves time at the airport. Travellers then do not have to go to the check-in desk, but can go straight to baggage drop-off. Or, when travelling with hand luggage only, go straight to the gate. Families with children and groups are of course still welcome at the staffed check-in desks.

3. Read the baggage rules

Because baggage rules are strictly applied at Schiphol, passengers are advised to double-check the amount allowed for their journey according to their ticket conditions. This is stated in their booking details and on KLM.com. Hand luggage that is too big or too heavy must be checked in. Liquids may be carried in hand luggage, if brought in quantities of up to 100 ml and a total of 1 litre packed in a sealable plastic bag. KLM also recommends reading the list of prohibited articles on KLM.com.

4. Be at the airport well in time

Passengers departing from Amsterdam to destinations in Europe are advised to be at Schiphol Airport at least 2 hours before departure. Prior to departure of intercontinental flights, 3 hours are recommended.Departure halls 1 and 2 open every day at 4.30 AM.Schiphol has several departure halls, so KLM recommends checking in advance where the journey begins:

To Schengen destinations in Europe

1 + 1A

* Between July 6 and August 20 2017 check-in for intercontinental flights to the Caribbean, Paramaribo, Cape Town and Johannesburg may sometimes be in Departure hall 1. The information screens at the airport always show the correct check-in location.

5. Go to the gate at boarding time

The information screens at Schiphol airport show when boarding starts. It is important to be at the gate at the time indicated. For all KLM flights, the gate will close 15 minutes before departure. Anyone arriving at the gate after closing time will not be able to board anymore.Transferring passengers at Schiphol are advised to first go through customs and security checks. After that, one can still shop at the airport if boarding for the connecting flight has not yet started.

6. Maximum occupancy

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is responsible for staffing the security filters. KLM and Schiphol have agreed that all filters will be staffed to a maximum by deploying extra personnel. Plans are also underway to ensure optimum deployment of K-MAR border police at passport control.

SkyPriority

For SkyPriority customers at Schiphol the usual benefits of their membership level or travel class apply. KLM is aware of the increased busyness and does everything possible to minimize the inconvenience caused by this. Unfortunately, KLM cannot entirely prevent queues forming in SkyPriority rows and areas. Therefore, these travellers are also advised to be at the airport at least 2 hours (flights within Europe) or 3 hours (intercontinental flights) before departure.

Customer care

KLM customer care staff at all channels are prepared for receiving more questions and requests. They will do their utmost to serve and help travellers to experience a comfortable journey. Naturally, in case of delays, passengers will be rebooked and/or compensated according to KLM rules.With these additional measures, staff at KLM and its partner airlines are ready to take care of all customers.

The smart audio luggage tag automatically provides visitors with location based verbal tips on how to traverse the city. The specially designed location-aware audio luggage tag consists of an offline GPS module and a speaker. While you’re walking or cycling through the city, it offers the right tip at the right location at the right time. All over Amsterdam, KLM plotted the voice of their caring crew at spots where people can use some extra assistance. A visitor can simply attach the tag to her/his luggage or clothes.

</pp:summary>

Personal tips at your side in the city

KLM’s ambition to be the most customer-centric European airline, led to the development of a device that expands the service of its crew beyond planes and airport. KLM crew filled the KLM Care Tag with hundreds of practical tips about the city of Amsterdam. Not the standard tourist tips, but insightful tips ranging from busy intersections with a lot of cyclists, where and how to lock your bike and when you have to watch out for pickpockets. But also more lighthearted tips such as where to taste local food for free, where to see great street art or where to rent a bike or boat. With the Care Tag you always have someone that guides you through the city.

Busy Amsterdam

Over the last couple of years Amsterdam has rapidly become one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. January this year for the first time over 1 million people visited the city. By the year 2025 this will increase with 30%. Together with Paris and Lisbon it hosts the most visitors per inhabitant in Europe.

Limited availability

The KLM care tag can only in September be ordered online for free by passengers who travel to Amsterdam. Passengers who are interested, can simply order it, but availability is limited. The first batch of Care Tags will only be available in English but later this year there will be more Care Tags available in Chinese, Portuguese, German and Russian.

KLC unveiled the special farewell livery as the official launch of the Fokker 70’s phase-out. The special aircraft will fly during the coming months, making its last flight on 28 October.

</pp:summary>

The farewell livery is a symbol of thanks to everyone involved in the Fokker’s operation and to all who made a contribution to this bit of Dutch heritage. With the help of this livery, KLM Cityhopper is celebrating the 97-year partnership between KLM and Fokker: KLM is a staunch Dutch company and aviation pioneer, and Fokker is the Dutch manufacturer of the aircraft with which KLM made its first flights. The livery was applied in Hangar 73 at Schiphol-Oost, where the Fokker company used to deliver its aircraft to a variety of airlines.

Right now, there are nine Fokker 70s still in KLM Cityhopper’s fleet. When the Fokker 70 is phased out, the last aircraft of Dutch origin will disappear from Dutch soil. It will bring a special period in aviation history to an end.

KLM Cityhopper announced its fleets renewal programme in 2008. In recent years, the Fokker 50 and 100 have been phased out and replaced by Embraer 175s and 190s. By acquiring this new aircraft type, KLM and KLM Cityhopper can once again contribute to more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly operations. Quality and comfort for passengers are extremely important in that process.

KLM Cityhopper is Europe’s largest regional carrier. Each year, it carries out more than 105,000 flights from Amsterdam Schiphol to sixty-seven European destinations. No later than 2018, KLM Cityhopper’s entire fleet will consist of thirty Embraer 190 and seventeen Embraer 175 aircraft. This will give KLM the single-largest Embraer fleet in Europe.

Fokker,anthony fokker,klc,klm,fokker 70,farewell,thank you fokker,cityhopper,flight,livery

</pp:summary>

Delftware craftsmanship
KLM’s new flight safety film features more than 1,000 tiles, specially drawn, animated and painted with the utmost precision for this specific purpose. The entire script was first translated into handmade Delftware drawings, which were then painted onto the tiles. Stop-motion video animation was then used to film KLM’s flight safety instructions for passengers, tile by tile.

Dutch design
Just like the new flight safety film, KLM’s new Economy Class catering concept “Tasty Blue” was also inspired by Delftware design. The trolleys, placemats, cutlery sleeves, paper boxes and cups all feature Delftware details or elements. This ties in perfectly with KLM’s Delftware miniature houses, which have been presented to World Business Class passengers since the 1950s. The World Business Class tableware and new interior of the fleet were also created by Dutch designers. In addition, KLM has a long tradition of serving its World Business Class passengers meals created by leading Dutch chefs. In so doing, KLM reaffirms its pride in its Dutch roots and international allure.

The flight safety film and as well as the “making of” can be viewed at klm.com/flightsafety. The film and the Delftware tiles will also be on display at the Dutch Design week in Eindhoven from 17 to 25 October.

	Over KLM

The results have been reported to the Transport and Water Management Inspectorate. The Inspectorate will take the decision on whether flight operations are possible.

KLM President & CEO, Peter Hartman, said: "At first glance there is no reason to suspect that anything is amiss. We observed no irregularities either during the flight or during the initial inspection on the ground. If the results of the technical inspection confirm this impression, we are ready to start by returning seven of our aircraft to Amsterdam from Düsseldorf. We hope to receive permission as soon as possible after that to start up our operation and to transport our passengers to their destinations." KLM Executive Vice-President Operations, Ype de Haan, was also on board the flight with Peter Hartman as an observer.

The aircraft flew to 41,000 feet (altitude of approximately 13 kilometres), which is the maximum altitude for this type of aircraft. KLM expects to receive the final results of the technical inspection tomorrow morning.

Passengers are advised not to travel to Schiphol, but to check their airline's website for the latest flight information.

ashcloud,test,flight

</pp:boilerplate>

The Fokker 50 has been phased out as part of KLM’s fleet renewal program. The airline has invested extensively in renewal to improve operational stability, reduce operating costs and ensure lower CO2 emissions. Between late 2008 and late 2010, KLC has and will replace the majority of its Fokker 100 fleet and all of its Fokker 50s with 17 new EMBRAER 190s and five Fokker 70s. These extra Fokker 70’s are purchased from Air France’s regional subsidiary Régional Compagnie Aérienne Européenne (Regional) bringing this total to 26 aircraft. Five Fokker 100s will remain in KLC’s service.

Both Régional and KLM operate the EMBRAER 190. The aircraft has 100 seats in the KLC configuration. The joint acquisition of this aircraft type by the regional subsidiaries of the AIR FRANCE KLM Group offers significant synergy benefits in terms of purchasing aircraft, engines and components. There are also various other benefits in terms of handling, maintenance and training.

Because the departure of the Fokker 50 is a special milestone in the history of KLM and KLM Cityhopper, we will mark the event with two farewell flights for special guests on Sunday, March 28. One of these flights has been reserved for Stichting Hoogvliegers, a foundation that organises flights for children who are seriously ill or disabled. Since its establishment, this foundation has had close ties with KLM.

Fokker,50,last,flight
