From tomorrow KLM is also operating a new direct service to Valencia.

Genoa, Italy’s sixth largest city, is an attractive destination for both leisure and commerce. This makes it an excellent addition to the KLM network. The city’s rich cultural history and cuisine appeals to tourists, while its location in the industrial triangle of Northwest Italy (Milan-Turin-Genoa) makes it one of Italy’s most important economic centres.

Valencia
Valencia is the capital of the province of Valencia and is Spain’s third largest city, after Madrid and Barcelona. The addition of three new Spanish destinations to KLM’s network – Valencia, Ibiza (from 21 May on Saturdays and Sundays and daily from 4 July), and Alicante (daily from 2 July) considerably strengthens KLM’s position in the Spanish market.

Flight schedules
KLM Cityhopper will operate both the Genoa and Valencia services. Flights to Genoa will operate daily until 20 May using E190 equipment. From 21 May, all flights to and from Genoa on Saturdays will be operated with a B737-700. All flights to and from Valencia will be operated using B737-700 equipment.

The KL1563 departs Amsterdam at 10:05 hours and lands at Genoa at 11:45. Flight KL1564 departs Genoa at 12:20 hours and arrives in Amsterdam at 14:20 hours.

Flight KL1715 to Valencia departs Amsterdam at 13:45 hours and lands at 16:15 hours. Flight KL1716 departs Valencia at 17:00 hours and arrives in Amsterdam at 19:35 hours. This service will operate only on Saturdays and Sundays from 23 April and daily from 16 May.

This is the first time KLM has worked with a top chef to develop meals for its European Business Class. This collaboration is part of the new concept KLM is launching for all its European flights.

</pp:summary>

In October, KLM announced it would be working with the Michelin three-star chef, Jacob Jan Boerma, to develop new World Business Class meals. Now, KLM is working with chef Onno Kokmeijer, Executive Chef & Manager at the two-star restaurant Ciel Bleu at Hotel Okura Amsterdam. Onno and his Chef the Cuisine Arjan Speelman have developed the main lunch and dinner menus for the longer European flights to and from Amsterdam. (*) The menus will change with the winter and summer flight schedules. Passengers will have a choice of two meals, which will change every week. Onno and Arjan also designed the menus for KLM’s World Business Class in October 2013.

KLM investing in its catering product
KLM is optimising its service on European flights. KLM and KLC now serve the same snacks and sandwiches in Economy Class, which creates greater product uniformity across our European routes. Sandwiches will also be served more often on KLM flights for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Ciel Bleu
Ciel Bleu, the two-star restaurant on the 23rd floor of Hotel Okura Amsterdam, is in many respects a unique location. Its spectacular view across Amsterdam grants guests the opportunity to see the city from a completely different perspective. Onno Kokmeijer has held sway over the Ciel Bleu since 2003. With Arjan Speelman, his Chef de Cuisine, he received a second Michelin Star in 2007. These chefs draw inspiration from the tastes their international guests desire and are constantly in search of the best ingredients and innovative ways to prepare food.

In a petition KLM, Air France-KLM, Lufthansa and unions from France, The Netherlands and Germany are asking the European Commission to put an end to this plan.

</pp:summary>

To: President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker and First Vice-President Frans Timmermans

Cc: Commissioners Violeta Bulc and Marianne Thyssen

9.3 million jobs in danger!

We request a firm stance of the new European Commission against abuses of European social standards in the field of aviation!

A new airline has been established called “Norwegian Air International” that wants to offer scheduled services from the UK to the US. They have received an Irish license for this and they intend to employ crewmembers from Thailand that are hired through aSingaporean agency.

Competition in aviation is intense and it keeps us sharp. However, through businessmodels like this we risk entering a downward spiral to the social bottom, risking thousands of qualified European jobs. European aviation currently provides 9.3 million jobs and adds 512 bn Euros to European GDP.

Your new Commission has chosen the strengthening of Europe’s competitiveness as its no. 1 priority and wants to give a stronger boost to jobs, growth and investment.

How can the Commission strengthen aviation’s competitiveness if it allows such abusesof European standards?

If we allow Norwegian Air International to start employing Thai crew on the EU-USroutes, others will soon follow and jobs will be lost inside the European Union andcreated elsewhere. In the maritime sector we have already seen this same scenarioplay out, resulting in the loss of tens of thousands of jobs. It would be foolish to let the same happen to aviation. Therefore we need your support.

We count on you!
The US has temporarily denied Norwegian Air International’s request for a foreign carrier permit. The European Commission should now take a strong stance and prevent Norwegian Air International from abusing European social standards and legislation through employing Thai crew. This will then cost them EUR 7.50 for a one-way trip when checking in online, and EUR 15 if they check in at the airport.

In line with the usual range of alternatives open to customers, KLM also offers its passengers the option of covering the hold-baggage fee with FB Miles. FB Ivory members can cover the baggage fee with 1500 FB Miles per flight via My Trip on KLM.com. In this way, KLM continues to reward customer loyalty.

The new policy for FB Ivory members applies for all tickets issued on or after 1 October 2014. </pp:boilerplate>

Erik Varwijk, Executive Vice President KLM Commercial: “Extensive research among KLM business class passengers revealed a clear need for a better, more comfortable service to enable passengers to work or relax on board. We are delighted to be able to meet our customers’ needs by offering in Europe Business Class a vastly improved, new, and comfortable product.”

More comfort and efficiency – A seat in the new Europe Business Class provides one-and-a-half-times more room than before, because the middle seat is always left empty and can no longer be reserved. Besides improving the level of comfort, this also offers business passengers more privacy. Moreover, every business class seat in the 737 fleet will soon be fitted with a socket to charge electrical appliances. KLM continues to offer Europe Business Class passengers greater efficiency by providing priority departure and arrival services, such as Premium Check-In, extra baggage allowances, access to airport lounges, and priority during boarding and baggage processing.

Improved catering – The menu and presentation of meals on board is being completely modernised. KLM is introducing a newly refined, high-quality menu containing a range of choices depending on the flight and departure time. Four menus will be served every month. The catering presentation is also changing. Meals will now be served on tableware designed by Dutch designer Marcel Wanders, as they are in World Business Class. The collection is created in Wanders’ unique style and matches the quality standards of a top restaurant.

Europe Business Class is being introduced on all flights in Europe that are operated by KLM or KLM cityhopper. This amounts to around 500 flights a day to more than 60 destinations.

business,class,update,european

	The European Commission has expressed regret at the recent negative exposure received by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. Media reports in recent days have stated that the Commission believed KLM was alleged to have improperly handled passenger compensation claims. For this reason, the Commission is thought to have reprimanded KLM. The matter relates to costs incurred when airspace was closed following the volcanic eruption in Iceland.

</pp:boilerplate>

The Commission on Thursday issued a new statement renouncing earlier statements. The Commission confirmed that it had never served KLM with a formal reprimand.

The Commission also made it clear that this complex issue has bearing on the entire industry, and not just KLM. The airlines, united in the Association of European Airlines (AEA) argue that the European provision for passenger rights was never intended to cover extreme circumstances such as these. The compensation regulations were intended for individual flight delays and cancellations, and not for circumstances in which the entire airspace was closed for a lengthy period due to a natural disaster.

KLM wanted to operate at the time, but was not allowed to. In that light, it would be unreasonable to expect the airline to carry all of the costs, argued the KLM management. More so now that the Commission and the European Ministers of Transport have formally agreed that the regulations do not apply to such circumstances and should be amended as soon as possible. It is expected that this will be done later this year. In the meantime, KLM will assess all claims individually.

european,Compensation,Claims
