This marks another step towards the airline’s goal of achieving zero-emission ground operations by 2030.

]]>The Goldhofer Phoenix AST2E, leased via TCR, replaces the current diesel models and offers greater versatility than the existing electric tractors. The new tractors can push back and tow both small aircraft and large planes—up to the size of a Boeing 777.

These new tow tractors are completely emission-free and quieter, while also offering increased comfort for drivers thanks to improved suspension. This creates a better working environment and delivers an immediate positive impact on air quality on the apron.

With the arrival of the Goldhofer Sherpas, half of KLM’s equipment tow tractors on the platform have been electrified. As a result of this expansion, KLM has now electrified just over 70% of its ground operations. The goal is zero-emission ground handling by 2030.

The first aircraft will be delivered to KLM in October 2015 and to Air France in January 2017. The joint selection of engine for Air France and KLM’s Boeing 787-9 enables the Group to benefit from significant synergies.

]]>The agreement also includes the signature of a partnership between General Electric and Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance on the maintenance of the GEnx engine.

The GEnx-1B engine will contribute to the operational performance of the Boeing 787-9 as it contributes to the fuel consumption reduction and gives rise to a 15% reduction in the aircraft's CO2 emissions. The design of this engine also provides significant reduction in noise and NOx emissions, therefore ensuring in advance the compliance with standards to be implemented in the coming years.

* December 2011, Air France-KLM placed a firm order for 25 Boeing 787-9 with the American aircraft manufacturer, with another 25 on option as well as a firm commitment for 12 aircraft on lease from ILFC.
