Over the years, the style and look of the cap has changed to suit the fashion of the day. KLM no longer sees any added value in pilots wearing caps.  Besides, the aim is to give pilots a more modern and accessible appearance. Consequently, the pilot’s cap for women and men will no longer be worn at KLM and KLM Cityhopper from 1 January 2018.

]]>Similarly, some other airlines and occupations have either done away with the cap, which traditionally formed part of the uniform, or they have come up with alternatives.

Caps donation to 'Stichting Hoogvliegers'

Pilots may keep their caps or donates them to 'Stichting Hoogvliegers'. KLM worked for many years with this foundation, which offers children who are ill a chance to be pilot for a day.

KLM finds it incomprehensible – and irresponsible – that the FNV feels the need to take this issue to extremes and is not willing to talk with us as the other four trade unions are willing to do. KLM does not to succumb to industrial action. Our customers, our staff, and our company would only suffer. We are, however, prepared to negotiate.

The KLM Open Golf Tournament will run from 8 to 11 September. KLM has been chief sponsor of the Netherlands’ largest golf tournament and, since 2013, it has sponsored leading golfer Joost Luiten.

The flight travelled from Amsterdam to New York. The exhibition was created to display KLM’s revamped range of products on board under the name of the KLM Sky High Collection: Contemporary and Surprising. Leading Dutch photographer Carli Hermès created a photo series of a number of products from the assortment.
