Unfortunately, passengers flying with KLM to European destinations will again be inconvenienced by the 24-hour work stoppage to be observed by employees at KLM Catering Services (KCS). As a necessary precaution, catering will be kept to a minimum on European flights after 20:00 hours on Wednesday, 18 December. Unfortunately, delays cannot be ruled out because of this.

Catering will return to normal on European flights departing from Schiphol from the morning of Friday, 20 December. European flights arriving early in the morning at Schiphol will still carry minimal catering on board.

Duty-free sales will also be suspended on intercontinental flights during this period. The work stoppage will not have an impact on catering on intercontinental flights.

statement,statements,klm,fnv,catering

	KLM Royal Dutch Airlines today began serving its passengers in World Business Class and European Business Class chicken that meets the standards of the Dutch Beter Leven Keurmerk (Better Life Quality Mark). From the end of next year, passengers on all flights out of Amsterdam will be served this type of chicken.

	About KLM
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines was founded in 1919, making it the world's oldest airline operating under its original name. In 2004, Air France and KLM merged to form AIR FRANCE KLM. The merger produced the strongest European airline group based on two powerful brands names and hubs —Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and Paris Charles de Gaulle. The two airlines collaborate on three core activities while maintaining their own identities — passenger transport, cargo, transport, and aircraft maintenance.

	In the Netherlands, KLM comprises the core of the KLM Group which further includes KLM cityhopper and transavia.com. KLM serves 135 destinations using a modern fleet of 157 aircraft and employs over 33,000 people around the world. KLM is a leader in the airline industry, which offers reliable operations and customer-oriented products resulting from its policy of enthusiasm and sustainable innovation.

	KLM is a member of SkyTeam, an airline alliance offering a network of 926 destinations in more than 173 countries. The KLM network connects the Netherlands to every important economic region around the world and, as such, serves as a powerful driver for the Dutch economy.

</pp:boilerplate>

KLM has been committed to sustainable air transport for quite some time and works in close cooperation with the World Wide Fund for Nature in the Netherlands (WNF) to achieve its aims. KLM is a trendsetter in the field of sustainable catering. The Beter Leven Keurmerk was initiated by the Dutch Dierenbescherming (Animal Protection Society) to improve living conditions for animals in the poultry industry.

KLM’s environmental policy aims to ensure biodiversity and animal welfare. KLM serves sustainable, MSC-certified fish that is on the green list of the Good Fish Guide published by the North Sea Foundation and WNF.
On flights out of Amsterdam, KLM serves Beter Leven certified veal (if it is on the menu), and on flights out of the United States, we serve so-called “cage-free” omelettes.

KLM also serves organically produced milk and Caring Dairy cheese on board and, from 2010, began serving Beter Leven certified cold cuts.

‘From Holland’ festival
In October and November, all passengers flying KLM out of Schiphol will experience the “From Holland” festival. This is the third year that we turn the spotlight to local produce and Dutch handicrafts.

The meals will include produce from Dutch farmers and other suppliers. The meals will also feature vegetables and fruit that are in season.

Seasonal produce is better for the environment because it can be processed immediately, which means it does not have to be stored or cooled for lengthy periods. This coincides closely with KLM’s Corporate Social Responsibility policy, and this produce comes with the added advantage that it is cultivated on Dutch soil and that it is very fresh. With this festival, KLM celebrates its typically Dutch roots and underscores the importance of sustainable catering.

catering,festival,holland,chicken,sustainable
