The addition of this destination in the northeast of Brazil to its network consolidates KLM’s position as a major European carrier in the Brazilian market for both business and leisure travellers. KLM will operate a thrice weekly service from Amsterdam to this new destination using Airbus A330-200 equipment with a capacity of 268 seats per flight.

</pp:summary>

KLM’s partnership with the Brazilian airline GOL was one of the reasons for choosing Fortaleza as our third destination in Brazil. Fortaleza’s strategic geographical location, its developing economy and tourism, and the new air routes GOL opens up to other major cities in the north and northeast of Brazil, make it a highly attractive destination for KLM. KLM’s partner Air France will also commence a scheduled service to Fortaleza from Paris in May 2018.

KLM, Air France and GOL will thus create a hub at Fortaleza that will initially offer connections to Salvador, Recife, Natal, Belém, Manaus, and Brasilia. New connections will be added in the future to make Europe more accessible to customers in the north and northeast of Brazil.

From 3 May 2018, KLM will operate two roundtrips a week between Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and Fortaleza on Thursdays and Saturdays. The flights will be operated using Airbus A330-200 equipment with 18 World Business Class seats, 35 Economy Comfort seats, and 215 Economy Class seats. A third weekly service will be added from 2 July on Mondays.

KL0707 departs Amsterdam Airport Schiphol at 12:50 hours and arrives in Fortaleza at 17:20 hours.

KL0708 departs Fortaleza at 19:50 hours and arrives at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol at 10:00 hours the next day.

KLM currently also operates services seven times a week to both Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

<pp:quotes><pp:quote>

<pp:caseid>120038</pp:caseid><pp:summary>
KLM Cityhopper welcomed yesterday its first E175, from Embraer, at Schiphol Airport. The new aircraft will allow KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and KLM Cityhopper to continue their contribution to more efficient and environmentally friendly operations in which quality and passenger comfort hold an important place. The aircraft feature a new wingtip that, among other technical enhancements, improves aerodynamic performance. Fuel consumption on a typical flight is 6.4% lower than the original E175.

</pp:summary>

By 2018, KLM Cityhopper will ultimately have seventeen E175 aircraft. Alongside its thirty E190s, it will have the largest Embraer fleet in Europe. More or less simultaneously with the arrival of the E175, KLM will start the phase-out of its Fokker 70 aircraft which, according to current plans, will conclude in 2018.

KLM crews can fly both the E190 and the E175 because the aircraft employ identical cockpits and call for the same procedures. The aircraft has the same configuration as the E190, the only difference being that the E175 has eighty-eight seats compared to one hundred in the E190.

The E175 is considerably more fuel efficient compared to the Fokker 70, thereby making it more environmentally friendly. It is 18% more fuel efficient so it produces 18% fewer carbon dioxide emissions. As a result, the E175 fits perfectly in line with KLM’s aim to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 20% in 2020.

The first commercial flight will depart on 27 March, flying from Schiphol to Stavanger. Subsequent destinations will include Brussels, Ålesund, Torp Sandefjord, Turin, and Manchester. Ultimately, the E175 will fly to all the European destinations that KLM Cityhopper operates for KLM.

<pp:quotes><pp:quote>

The fleet expansion programme is an essential part of the number of destinations that KLM has added to this summer’s schedule.
