“Tulip” KLM’s latest Dreamliner

KLM’s Dreamliners are named after flowers or flowering plants; a typical Dutch export product that therefore resonates with KLM perfectly. Other aircraft in KLM’s B787s fleet carry names such as Orchid, Sunflower, Carnation, Lavender and Marguerite. The name of the 13^th Dreamliner is no coincidence either. The Netherlands is famous for its tulips and is one of the most important exporting countries for tulips and tulip bulbs.

KLM continues to invest in fleet renewal

In the interests of customer satisfaction, KLM again invested in renewing its fleet in 2018. The Tulip is the third Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner to arrive on Dutch soil so far in 2018. The two other Dreamliners touched down earlier this year in January and April. What’s more, KLM added seven new Embraers to its fleet. The latest Dreamliner is the last Boeing 787-9 to arrive for the time being. Expectations are that in June 2019, KLM will take delivery of its first Boeing 787-10.

Boeing 787 emits less CO2

The Boeing 787 produces less surrounding noise, uses less fuel and therefore emits less CO2. This makes the aim of lowering CO2 emissions by 20% in 2020 (compared to 2011) feasible. Less waste is generated during the production phase because the Dreamliner consists largely of easy-to-cut carbon fibre composites.

The aircraft offers a range of passenger benefits in terms of travel comfort. For example, greater air pressure in the cabin means that passengers arrive feeling more rested. And for passengers wanting to stay online during their flight, there’s WiFi on board. The aircraft seats 30 passengers in business class, 48 in economy comfort and 216 in economy

KLM introduces films with audio description for blind and visually impaired passengers

The first films with audio description are: Home Again, Kingsman, The Golden Circle and Lego Ninjago Movie. More films will be added in the coming months.

Audio description is a means of making films and television programmes accessible to blind and visually impaired people. A narrator describes all the visual elements during breaks in dialogue. The narrator describes the characters, facial expressions, their location and plot developments.

KLM welcomes 8th Boeing 787 Dreamliner

The lavender plant’s purple flowers are borne in whorls held on spikes rising above the foliage. The plant is grown mainly for the extraction of essential oil used as fragrances for cosmetics, including soap and perfume.

KLM welcomes new Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Embraer 175 today

KLM’s seventh Boeing 787 Dreamliner is called “Jasmine”.
Jasmine is a blooming creeper with innumerable white flowers, which give off an intoxicating scent. The plant originates from South Asia. There are numerous species, including the Arabian jasmine and star jasmine.

All of KLM’s Boeing 787 Dreamliners are named after flowers or blooming plants, including the Sunflower, Carnation, Bougainville, Dalia, Hibiscus and Mimosa. KLM’s eighth new Dreamliner is expected to arrive in late September.

Embraer 175
KLM will take delivery of its third Embraer 175 this evening. The fourth Embraer 175 is expected to
arrive at Schiphol in October. KLM will expand its fleet with a total of 15 Embraer 175s through 2018.

Xiamen Airlines and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines intensify partnership with long-term maintenance agreement and more code-shares

Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance offer a fully-certified Maintenance Repair & Overhaul Organisation for B787 GEnx engines. Xiamen Airlines will be the launch customer for Air France-KLM’s expertise in GEnx engine maintenance in Amsterdam. AFI KLM E&M is a frontrunner in providing professional, high-quality maintenance services to airlines worldwide.

Xiamen Airlines and KLM will also intensify their partnership by extending code-sharing to more flights across their respective networks, giving their customers a broader and better range of options for travel beyond their hubs in Xiamen and Amsterdam. Xiamen Airlines launched direct service between Xiamen and Amsterdam in summer 2015, supplementing the service KLM has operated between Amsterdam and Xiamen since 2011. Together, KLM and Xiamen Airlines operate six weekly code-share services between their respective hubs.

Xiamen Airlines and KLM also pledged to make use of each other’s catering services, to explore opportunities for staff exchange with a view to mutual learning, and to make their cooperation more effective.
